About this tool
Designed and distributed by Prepare Education Uganda for use under licence by partner schools, this predictive AI tool supports school counsellors and directors of studies in guiding S.5 students through A-Level combination selection.
Methodology
The recommendation engine combines four evidence streams for every student:
- Academic record — O-Level subject grades on the updated NCDC nine-point scale (1 best, 9 lowest pass).
- Personality and interest profile — a 12-item RIASEC instrument (Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional).
- Learning style — a brief Visual / Auditory / Kinesthetic / Reading inventory.
- Counsellor-collected context — interests, passions, career aspirations and reading habits.
The engine returns three ranked combinations drawn from common Ugandan A-Level clusters (PCM, PCB, PCB/M, BCM, MEG, MEcA, HEG, HED, HEL, HGL, HEK, HGE, ECM, PEM, ART), each with a fit score (0–100), a rationale that cites the student's own data, recommended focus areas, and explicit risks.
Progressive assessment
At the end of S.5 Term 1, the same student is re-assessed with their term marks, daily routine, conduct, reading habits and any special circumstances. A principal subject below 45/100 is flagged as a sustainability risk. The tool then confirms or replaces the combination with three new ranked options.
Scope and limitations
The tool is academic advisory. It does not replace the professional judgement of the counsellor, the director of studies or the head teacher. It will refuse off-topic input and will not produce vague or unsupported advice. Recommendations are only as accurate as the data entered.
